Sedation Options

When you’re happy and you know it, your smile will surely show it

Nitrous Oxide

Our level one sedation option, Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)is a mixed gas delivered with a nose piece. It had been used since the mid 19th century, and is still one of the most common inhaled sedatives used today.

It is fast acting, creating a sense of calm and euphoria, in most patients. It wears off within minutes and you do not need a driver to use it.

It is not recommended for those who are pregnant, have COPD, asthma, nasal congestion, or have a vitamin B12 deficiency.

It is best to eat a small meal and hour or two before it's use, and can be used for patients 3 years old and up.

Anxiolysis

Our level two sedation option, Anxiolysis, is the reduction of anxiety using minor psycho-sedative pills, such as Valium, Zanax, or Benedryl, to children or adults prior to the beginning of treatment. This may be used with Nitrous Oxide to synergize the sedative effect. We offer it to both children and adults and a driver is required.

Moderate Conscious(IV)

Our level three sedation option is Moderate Conscious Sedation. Using pills, an IV, or a combination of both, major psycho-sedatives, such as Versed, or Opiates such as Fentinal are used simultaneously.

Aside from being "put to sleep" from an Anesthesiologist, this is the most profound type of sedation. A patient retains their own reflexes, is monitored closely, and can be reversed if necessary.

Patients are able to achieve years worth of dentistry in few appointments using this technique, and requires a driver.
